Tell me about your pets

by Amanda on Sep.23, 2009, under Colby

I noticed that my readers seem to like when I ask questions and get to know them and their lives better so here’s another one, tell me about your pets. I don’t just want a picture or a name though. Tell me about their personality.

Colby is a spoiled dog himself. He lived with his parents until he was 9 months old. He sleeps on all the furniture when he wants. Sometimes it’s the chair or couch but usually the bed if he isn’t kicked by either Randy or myself. If only one of us is in bed he’s more likely to stay there. He doesn’t like automatic water feeders because the bubbling scares him. He’s also afraid of the raspberry noise people can make with their mouths or cans being shaken together in a bag. He loves car rides and will typically stick his head out the window or, in the case of picking Randy up, thinks he is a lap dog. Randy and I are known as mommy and daddy. He also doesn’t like pickles or pretzels and milk is the only thing he can’t tolerate. It will cause him to make the house his personal toilet. He is incredibly touchy about anyone touching his rear end hair but will walk away instead of snapping. A bath puts him to sleep for the rest of the night and “Let’s go ni nights” is his favorite phrase. He also has separation anxiety.

I’m entirely too observant of his little quirks. Now, entertain me with yours.

My favorite subject, my cute little purebred mini-dachshund, Sam. My mom says he could have been a show dog, and I agree. He’s a beauty. But his weirdest quirk is his penchant for chasing shadows. He’ll whine at a reflection of the sun on the wall or chase the shadows of butterflies in the backyard. What a crazy dog he is! But I love him…

ah my furbaby dorian.. he’s been with me since he was born. started out as a tiny runt thing who almost died so many times as a kitten, now he’s a huge lion of a cat who spends all his time laying around being lazy and cute. his full name, dorian grey, is perfect for him because he thinks he is the most important thing in the damn world (and he is, in mine anyway :p)

My Charmin puppy is now 19 months old and weighs about 53lbs (not so much a puppy anymore!). He still sleeps in his crate at night because anytime we’ve given him the chance to sleep outside of it, we wake up to find something chewed up or eaten. He doesn’t mess with much when we are awake and can see him, but he’s very sneaky. He is deathly afraid of laundry baskets and Wal-Mart bags, especially when we walk in the house carrying groceries or other items. He knows lots of tricks, but can be very stubborn if he doesn’t want to listen and obey. He doesn’t going outside by himself unless it’s just a bathroom run, and wants constant human attention/companionship when we are home.

Awww, that is such a cute, great description : ) I have too many pets to go on about, but my first real pet I only got last year (now we have a total of five), a ‘lab-mix’ who I am so in love with! She has a lot of similarities to your description of Colby, and it’s always funny to me when I find her in bed by herself. She will ignore me to no end most of the time even though she’s rather intelligent. I’ll call her… and call her… and call her… and go looking through the house to find her ‘sleeping’ in bed. She won’t flinch or open an eye, but if I suddenly whisper, ‘Wanna go outside?’ she slams into the floor full force *laughing*. She’s also shocked the hell out of me by responding to ‘commands’ the first time I say them- that’s why they become ‘commands’. Once we were outside and she was off leash, she did something that upset me and I said, ‘GO UPSTAIRS!’ and she went straight up the steps to the front door and stuck her nose in the crack where it opens, waiting for me to let her in : P Another time she was wrestling too roughly with her little sister when I said, ‘Get the ball!’ (there was no ball) and she ran off to get a ball. We gave up fetch when she was like four months old because despite the fact she’s supposed to be a lab the first game she ever learned was keep-away, and she fell in love.

She also DOES NOT like to cuddle (despite having separation anxiety). Right now I have her little sister laying next to me on the couch- she’s on the floor, near the couch, so she can be with us but not have to touch us : P

I’ve become such an animal lover the last year! Before her I was absolutely petrified of all animals. She’s changed me dramatically.
